CHENNAI: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has submitted a representation to the Tamil nadu DGP seeking police permission and security for party president Vijay’s proposed visit Karur to meet the families of the 41 victims who died in the stampede during his rally there on September 27.
Party sources said that a representation was sent to the Tamil Nadu DGP through email on Tuesday. The representation was also submitted to the DGP by party’s advocate S. Arivazhagan on Wednesday; but the party has not mentioned any specific date for Vijay’s Karur visit.
Meanwhile TVK general secretary for propaganda, K.G. Arunraj speaking to the press in Karur on Wednesday said Vijay will meet the public only if proper security arrangements are in place.
This is the first time that a TVK party functionary meets the press after the stampede that left 41 people dead and 110 injured.
He claimed that following the stampede Vijay had decided to personally visit Karur to meet the bereaved families in a private, respectful programme, ensuring no public gatherings, and provide the announced relief.
According to him, the party president had spoken to 33 families of victims over video calls in the last couple of days, extending condolences and assuring he would meet them soon.
