CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday inaugurated a Rs 53-crore facility at Kolathur to house the hitherto unorganised ornamental fish market, one of the largest of its kind in South India.
The project developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) , spans over 15,945sqm with a built-up area of 11,650sqm, includes 188 shops and five restaurants.
It has 64 shops on the ground floor, 70 on the first floor, and 54 on the second floor, with facilities for people with disabilities too.
The centre located on a 4-acre area near Padi Flyover in Villivakkam, with modern laboratories, conference halls to promote export of ornamental fish, parking lots for 185 cars, and 200 motorcycles.
Kolathur is a key hub for the ornamental fish trade in India, with around 500 families involved in production and trade.
