SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government has set up the Himachal Pradesh Energy Management Centre (HPEMC) to efficiently manage the sale and purchase of electricity, with the twin objectives of maximizing state revenue and minimizing power procurement costs.
Presiding over a meeting of the HPEMC in Shimla on Thursday, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for power procurement ahead of the winter season.
He pointed out that water flow in rivers typically declines during the winter months due to snowfall in higher regions, making it crucial to plan electricity purchases in advance to ensure an uninterrupted supply at economical rates.
Sukhu said that the HPEMC would play a pivotal role in energy trading and securing optimal financial returns for the state.
He emphasized that the centre must function with the highest standards of professionalism and transparency to achieve maximum benefits.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to strengthening the organization, the Chief Minister said all necessary support would be provided to enhance its operational efficiency.
He added that the present Congress government, in its first budget, had set a target of making Himachal Pradesh a Green Energy State by March 31, 2026, and that consistent efforts were underway to realize this vision.
