Staples opens first GCC in India in Chennai

CHENNAI: US-based retail giant Staples opened its first Global Capability Center (GCC) in India in Chennai. The centre is located at Global Infocity in Perungudi.

The new center, which began with over 50 employees, aims to enhance Staples’ global operations and reflects a growing trend of international companies establishing GCCs in India to leverage the skilled talent pool and expand their global reach.

“Staples, one of the world’s largest office solutions companies, choosing Tamil Nadu for its first ever GCC reinforces our state’s position as a premier global hub for innovation, digital engineering, and AI-driven solutions” Minister T R B Rajaa wrote on X.

Staples will invest more than Rs. 100 crore, creating up to 600 jobs — including 300+ high-value tech positions eligible under the State’s Special Scheme to Promote GCCs in Tamil Nadu.

“I must add that while speaking in the event their CIO, Matt Johnson also added that hitting a target of 1000 jobs is on the cards given the huge Talent availability here, “ Rajaa added .
