Wayanad: Gandhi family pays tribute to Sree Narayana Guru

WAYANAD : The Gandhi family  on Sunday paid floral tributes to Sree Narayana Guru on his Mahasamadhi Day in Wayanad. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam office at Kalpetta in the morning and offered floral tributes to the Guru’s portrait.

“It was an honour to pay our respects to Sree Narayana Guru ji on his Mahasamadhi day at SNDP Yogam Kalpetta Union Hall,” Priyanka wrote on X.

“His teachings of equality and compassion guide our actions and are more relevant today than ever,” she said.

Priyanka later met Syed Muhammad Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, president of the Samastha Kerala Jem-Iyyathul Ulama, at his residence in Malappuram.

Priyanka has been in her constituency for the past 10 days, meeting people from various walks of life, including prominent literary, cultural, and religious figures across Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts. Her visit is scheduled to conclude on Monday, Congress sources said.

On Saturday, she spent time with “little darlings” at the Varipra Anganwadi, which she said reminded her of her children “when they were that size”.

“Such cutie pies… all knew exactly what they wanted; “JCB!!”, “Jeep!!”, “Car!!”…seeing them smile those beautiful wide smiles was the loveliest moment of the day”, she added.

On Friday, she met many of the survivors of the Chooralmala and Mundakkai landslide brought home the immense suffering they are still facing.

“We discussed each different issue in depth, they requested me to visit the site once more so we went there the next day and took stock, then along with some of their representatives, I met the DC and we went through all pending matters one by one.

“I am happy that some of the matters are resolvable and with the UDF organisation and the district authorities we should be able to show some progress regarding these in the near future. Others will need more time and policy interventions which I will take up with the concerned ministries and raise in parliament.

“No effort, no matter how well meaning, can give back what has been lost, but together we can try our best to make life more liveable for those who have borne so much pain, Priyanka Vadra wrote on X.

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, who arrived in Wayanad on September 20, are also expected to return on Monday, party leaders said.
